Course: Personal Development, Health & Physical Education Stage 6 2 Unit
Rationale, Aim and Objectives

The syllabus a
ims and objectives place an increased emphasis on critical thinking and taking action to enhance lifestyle and wellbeing. The syllabus reflects current thinking in the areas of health and physical activity. The rationale of the course reflects the explicit inclusion of a social view of health and physical activity to complement scientific and biological dimensions. The rationale also acknowledges the dynamic nature of the learning area, emphasising the importance of research and critical inquiry in the learning process. 

The syllabus
- encourages students to be active and critical learners
- allows students to specialise in areas of interest
- presents areas of study of particular relevance to young people
- is explicit in terms of what is to be taught.

Course Structure
The syllabus includes a new structure that will allow students greater opportunity to specialise in areas of interest. In the Preliminary course students undertake core study for 70% of course time and select two options that total 30% of course time. The HSC course consists of two core modules (60%) and students select two options (40%).

_ Health Priorities in Australia (30%)
_ Factors Affecting Performance (30%)


Options (40% total)
Select two of the following options:

_ Sport and Physical Activity in Australian Society (20%)
_ Sports Medicine (20%)
_ Improving Performance (20%)
_ Equity and Health (20%)

How will this course help me in the future?
Undertaking this course will provide foundation studies for those students with a special or vocational interest in human movement, and individual and community health issues. The course would be of great benefit to anyone wishing to take up a career in any of the sport sciences, nursing, coaching or physical education teaching.

 

Course: Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies
This subject is available as either:

       1 Unit / 1 Year
·
       1 Unit / 2 Year
·
       2 Unit / 2 Year

What will I be doing in this course?
Body in Motion, with electives from : History of Sport; Healthy Lifestyles; Social Perspectives in Sport; Outdoor Recreation: Dance and Gym; Aquatics; Athletics and Sports Administration; Recreational Sport; Ball Games; Stick Games; Racquet Sports; Fitness; Sports Coaching and Training; Psychology and Performance; First Aid and Sports Injuries; Sport and Australian.  There are three directions that you can take with this course. All three include a core study of People in Motion and Society.

The three paths that can be taken are:-

       1 Unit, 1 Year  :- where you complete 2 modules
·
       1 Unit, 2 Years :- where you can complete up to 5 modules
·
      
2 Unit, 2 Years:- where you can complete up to 12 modules.

How will I be assessed in this course ?
This course will be assessed by both theoretical and practical components.

What should I be able to do at the end of the course ?
Students undertaking this course will - develop skills in identifying the relationship between a healthy lifestyle and diet and exercise. They will become more aware of anatomy and physiology and will create and refine their own performance of movement skills and safe sporting practices.

How will this course help me in the future?
Students selecting this course should be interested in sport with a desire to explore the working and functioning of the human body. This course will assist you to make valued and informed health decisions.

This course would be of benefit to anyone interested in coaching, sport, the fitness industry, recreational education, physical education, nursing, occupational health, physiotherapy.
