Computing Studies Faculty
"A
computing subject will prepare you for your future!"
As a computing student you will design and make products for specific
needs that are socially and
environmentally appropriate!
Below is a brief description of the courses we offer.
Information
Processes and Technology 2U
The IPT course teaches students about information-based systems. It
covers the processes of collecting, organising, analysing, storing and
retrieving, processing, transmitting and receiving, and displaying, as
well as the technologies that support them.
Through this
course, students will gain a good working knowledge of:
• the key concepts of data, information and systems
• available and emerging information technologies
• the social and ethical issues associated with the use of IT and
information systems, such as equity and access, privacy, freedom of
information and copyright
• the communication, personal and team skills necessary to ensure that
an information systems solution is appropriate for the needs of the
users
• related issues such as project management, documentation and user
interfaces.
Students interested in any field that requires the use of information technology will find this subject of value.
Software Design and Development 2U
"Have you ever wondered how the software in your computer operates? Have
you ever wanted to learn to write your own computer programs? Have you
ever wanted to learn how to develop simple computer games? Do you want
to survive the first year of Uni computer courses?
The SDD course is
designed to develop in students the knowledge, understanding, skills and
values to solve problems through the creation of software solutions. The
focus of this subject is the development of computer-based solutions
that require the design of computer software and associated
documentation.
In
Year 12 students are required to develop a computer product for a real
client. Through these various projects students will acquire team and
communication skills. Students interested in the fields of
software development, computer science and computer games tester will
find this subject of value.
Information Technology (VET) 2U
Students are provided with an opportunity to develop competencies
associated with the use of desktop applications
and the development of entry level helpdesk skills relevant to an
information technology setting. Students who satisfy the course
requirements and who achieve the units of competency described in the
course structure will be eligible to receive unit credit towards their
HSC and an AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) Statement of
Attainment in Information Technology.
Students must complete a mandatory work placement of 35 hours in the Prelim course and a further 35 hours in the
HSC course. Students are often called upon by the schools network administrators to assist with the installation and configuration of computers throughout the school.
All IT students are
provided with many opportunities to use the latest digital video/camera
software and hardware technologies. Some of the software used within our
courses are Macromedia MX, MS Office 2003 (Word, Excel, Access,
PowerPoint), MovieMaker Intervideo WIN DVD CREATOR and Pinnacle Studio
9.
